Student Volunteers

In addition to Moss Street student employment opportunities, we welcome students for practicums and internships, and those who would simply like to volunteer. For a few hours a week, you can set aside the stress of a busy student schedule while encouraging a child’s desire to learn.

Depending on your area of study, you can gain valuable experience interacting with children that may also fulfill some class requirements. If you are considering a career that includes children, volunteering at Moss Street can give you helpful insightful as to what that might be like. Spending regular time at Moss Street can also help you to develop emotional and social skills that you can use if or when you become a parent.

Each term we have UO students that just want to be involved with children. Maybe that will be you. Because we hire mostly work-study student employees, students without work study have found volunteering to be a good way to get experience in a childcare setting.

If you are interested in volunteering at Moss Street, we ask for a commitment of at least twice a week so the children can become familiar with you. Tuesday evening trainings are not mandatory, but encouraged. Our first priority for placement will be those that need the experience to fulfill coursework requirements.

If you would like to have a practicum, internship, or volunteer experience at Moss Street, please email us at mscc@uoregon.edu with the following:

  • Your name
  • Title of your class
  • Total hours required (if any)
  • Timeline for when you would like this experience to occur

We will then email you back to let you know if we have an opening that fits your needs, or to get more information.
